Charlamagne tha God hit back at Donald Trump after the president called the radio host a “racist sleazebag” and “low-IQ individual.”
During Monday’s episode of “The Breakfast Club,” Charlamagne addressed Trump’s criticism while dissecting the world leader’s scathing Truth Social post about him during a segment called “Donkey of the Day.”
Trump took aim at him over his appearance Saturday on “My View With Lara Trump,” the Fox News show hosted by the president’s daughter-in-law.
Speaking with Lara Trump, Charlamagne alleged that the “MAGA base” is losing its hold over the Republican Party due to the Trump administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
He also predicted that “traditional conservatives are going to take the Republican Party back.”
“I think there is a political coup going on right now in the Republican Party that people aren’t paying attention to,” Charlamagne said. “I think that this Epstein thing is going to be a way for traditional conservatives to take their party back.”
On Monday, Charlamagne, whose real name is Lenard McKelvey, blew off the blowback from Trump.
“I don’t care. He called me a sleazebag. I looked up the definition of sleazebag, says it’s ‘a disgusting or despicable person.’ Depending on who you ask, that may apply to me,” he quipped on “The Breakfast Club.” “I personally prefer friendly neighborhood a-hole. He said I’m ‘a low-IQ individual.’ I don’t know, I’ve never taken an IQ test.”
He went on to accuse the Trump administration of bullying its opposers and “pushing false narratives.”
“Listen, my fellow Americans, we are in a strange time right now, a time we have never seen because authoritarian strategy is being used against anyone who speaks out against this administration,” Charlamagne explained. “...[Trump’s] reaction to what I said on Lara Trump shows how authoritarians will attempt to bully people into pushing false narratives.”
Charlamagne then called out Trump’s claims that he’s a “racist.”
“He called me a racist. I didn’t mention race, not one time on Lara Trump. I didn’t bring up the fact that President Trump issued an executive order directing oversight of institutions like the Smithsonian to remove or suppress narratives about systemic racism and Black history,” he argued, referring to Trump’s executive order in January that demanded the Smithsonian “remove improper ideology” from its exhibits.
The move was criticized by many as an attempt to whitewash American history and eliminate discussions of systemic racism and social justice.
Charlamagne closed out his comments with a call to action to Trump.
“I don’t care who’s in the White House,” he said. “I want America to succeed. Believe it or not, I’m rooting for you, but I need you focused and right now, you’re not focused. OK?”
Charlamagne added: “We need you focused on two things: the economy and Epstein. I need you to keep the promises of a great economy and the promises of transparency with the Epstein files.”
