Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) did a digital strut on Sunday after helping Democrats stall the advancement of Donald Trump’s latest nominees. As senators departed for their monthlong August recess, the failure to reach a last-minute deal left the nominations in limbo.
Following days of ultimately unsuccessful bipartisan negotiations and a furious Trump post telling Schumer to “GO TO HELL!”, the senator celebrated with a series of pointed and mocking social media posts.
In one, Schumer summed up Trump’s tactics:
“Donald Trump’s style:
Posture
Cajole
Stamp your feet
… and then give up.”
Another post, captioned “Donald Trump caved and got nothing,” featured Schumer gleefully reading aloud Trump’s insults toward him.
But the chef’s kiss came in the form of a meme.
Schumer jumped on the viral “Jet2 holiday” TikTok trend, sharing a clip of Trump stumbling up the stairs to Air Force One with the caption, “Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday!”
The audio ― drawn from a 2022 commercial set to Jess Glynne’s song “Hold My Hand” — has become an online punchline for users who set it to their vacation disasters. The Trump White House itself faced backlash last week for hijacking the same meme to promote its anti-immigration agenda.
